Wikis4NLP – Using Wikipedia and Wiktionary to improve NLP tools

We are investigating how NLP algorithms can be improved by leveraging the vast amount of implicit knowledge prevalent in today's wikis rather than using traditional knowledge sources like WordNet. Our Application Programming Interfaces for both Wikipedia (Opens internal link in current windowJWPL) and Wiktionary (Opens internal link in current windowJWKTL) allow for an efficient access to a large pool of collaboratively constructed knowledge. The knowledge is then available for further automatic analysis, e.g. to calculate similarities of words or to detect typical spelling errors by analyzing the revision history of Wikipedia pages.
