Ernst von Siemens Doctoral Scholarship for Pinar Wennerberg

A member of the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing Lab at the TU Darmstadt, Pinar Wennerberg, has been awarded an Ernst von Siemens Doctoral Scholarship. Pinar Wennerberg's PhD thesis focuses on semantic integration of biomedical knowledge sources and is within the context of the large-scale, publicly funded THESEUS-Medico project [1]. The vision of MEDICO is to create a search engine for retrieving medical images and the related patient and textual data based on semantic technologies. The interdisciplinary MEDICO consortium that consists of a number of partners from the industry, academia and healthcare sector is coordinated by Siemens. Pinar’s PhD Thesis is supervised by Prof. Dr. Iryna Gurevych.

 

About Ernst von Siemens Doctoral Scholarships: Siemens awards scholarships under the framework "Generation 21" to its selected 10 PhD candidates each year to support talented PhD candidates in industry, who show high academic potential. The selection is highly competitive and the applicants need to fulfill a set of criteria, such as pursuing their PhD in technical or natural sciences, working for Siemens and not having started earlier than 1 year.  Furthermore, the resulting PhD thesis should make a significant contribution to the advancement of Siemens technologies. It is required that the PhD thesis is supervised by a German University. The 10 PhD candidates, who are elected by a jury, receive stipends and financial support for conference visits and publications. Additionally, they become members of the worldwide Siemens research network.
