Research

The efficient use of web-based information sources (e.g. Wikis) is becoming increasingly important within the modern technological civilization. Novel algorithms and speech technologies are available for enhancing the access to those resources and are already getting facilitated by systems like Wikulu. However the expected beneficial effect does not always emerge. This may be explained by theories postulating a limited pool of cognitive resources for problem solving. For validating this assumption, an interdisciplinary cooperation is required, which can be provided by the WeRC group, bringing together computer scientists and psychologists among other disciplines.

• Wikulu: The "Wikulu - Self-Organizing Wikis" project at the UKP Lab employs the latest Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies to manage unstructured information, i.e. to structure the content in corporate Wikis. The objective of the project is thus to implement intelligent approaches to assist the user while creating, editing, or searching content.
• QA-EL: The QA-EL project investigates new applications of dynamic lexical-semantic resources for information search in eLearning. The goal is to provide uniform access to both institutional and informal knowledge resources, whereby precise and short aggregated answers are supplied to the learner.
