Dr. Steven Burrows is employed at the Frankfurt branch of the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing Lab within the Information Center for Education at the German Institute of International Educational Research from January 2013 as a research scientist. His main research in this capacity is on free text assessment. Dr. Burrows previously worked at the Webis Group within the Faculty of Media at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from January 2011 to take up a two-year research assistant position for the German research grant "Strategies for Robust Design of Structures" funded by the State of Thuringia. Before that he was previously with the ISAR Group within the School of Computer Science and Information Technology at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, from 2000 to 2010 as a sessional lecturer, researcher, and student. The research interests of Dr. Burrows are broadly in information retrieval, data mining, machine learning, and natural language processing. He has successfully completed projects on plagiarism detection, authorship attribution, digital engineering, paraphrasing, experiment software, online assessment software, and computer science education.
